Behind this book…
This book wasn’t actually my idea. A brave and tenacious woman named Liz Lancaster, the mother of two children born with health issues relating to their father’s service in Vietnam, approached HarperCollins with the idea, and I was asked to research and write much of the book. I’m glad I did.
Reviews…
‘This is a well-researched, well-argued book that most New Zealand Vietnam veterans and their families will welcome.’
The Press, July 2000
‘It was a highly technical war, but it was fought, won, and lost at a guerrilla level – at a soldier’s level. The soldiers I knew were, and remained, proud of their service. That the war is not over for them and their families is something authorities should not be allowed to forget. This book helps because of the quality and integrity of its story, and its telling.’
RNZRSA Review, August 2000
‘Challinor and Lancaster deserve the next Montana Award. Their well-written, well-researched book should be read by every New Zealander.’
Wairarapa Times-Age, July 2000
